The First Saudi State was founded in 1727 by Imam Mohammed Bin Saud Bin Mohammed Bin Muqrin Bin Markhan Bin Ibrahim Bin Musa Bin Rabi’a Bin Mani’ al-Muraydi al-Dari al-Hanafi, who made Diriyah the capital of the state.
Imam Mohammed Bin Saud was born in 1679. He learned politics from his father and had an influence on stabilizing the conditions in the emirate before assuming power. Since he took over, he introduced significant changes in governance, including promoting unity, education, cultural dissemination, and maintaining security.
Since assuming leadership, Imam Mohammed Bin Saud united the two parts of Diriyah, worked on strengthening his community and unifying its members, organized economic affairs, and constructed a new neighborhood in Samhan, known as al-Tarfiyah neighborhood. He relocated the center of governance there and ordered the construction of walls around Diriyah to protect it from external attacks.
After organizing the internal affairs of the state, Imam Mohammed Bin Saud launched campaigns to unify neighboring tribes and towns, bringing them under the rule of the Saudi state. He united most of the Najd region through these efforts. Additionally, he successfully secured the pilgrimage routes and trade passages that passed through Najd, making it one of the safest regions. He also repelled several external campaigns against his state.
