Horse racing competition in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia officially began in 1965, when the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (currently the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development) officially established a club for horse racing. This led to the construction of fences around the horse racing track in al-Malaz District, where the first official horse race was held.
With the increase in club activity and the difficulty of expansion due to its location in a residential neighborhood, it was decided to construct a world-class racecourse covering an area of nine km², named King Abdulaziz Equestrian Field. Consequently, the Council of Ministers approved the organization of the Horse Racing Club on August 25, 2020. The club's main headquarters is in Riyadh, al-Janadriyah. Its objectives include enhancing the Kingdom's global standing in horse racing, organizing international participation, holding races within the Kingdom, promoting horse racing culture, and encouraging the acquisition, care, and breeding of horses.
