All five companies operate in the same business as Jarir. The sixth company is Jarir Egypt Financial Leasing, which operates in real estate investment in the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Initially, Jarir was established as a partnership company when it opened a small bookstore in Riyadh City in 1974. It then began expanding, opening a second branch in the 1980s, followed by another branch in the late 1990s. In 2002, Jarir became a joint-stock company with the commercial registration number (1010032264). A year later, it was listed on the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul), and Jarir started operating in retail and wholesale trade across regions of the Kingdom and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Jarir Marketing Company pursues several objectives to achieve its growth, including: developing a project management and strategy office to achieve long-term business goals, enhancing the company's organizational structure to align with its future size and business level, increasing e-commerce capabilities as a factor supporting the company's growth, increasing customer engagement with its brand, increasing its average annual income growth by an additional 10 percent through opening new locations and gaining additional market share. The company aims to open more than eighty branches in the Kingdom and the Gulf countries by 2025.
