History of Americana Restaurants International PLC
The former parent company was established in 1964 in the State of Kuwait and began its operations related to Wimpy brand in 1970, followed by KFC in 1973. During the period from 1964 to 2016, the group diversified its franchise partnerships to include Pizza Hut in 1979, Hardee's in 1980, TGI Fridays in 1994, and Krispy Kreme in 2006. During the same period, the group expanded its operations to include opening restaurants in the United Arab Emirates in 1979, the Kingdom in 1980, Morocco in 2001, and Kazakhstan in 2008. In 2022, the group added Peet's Coffee to its brand portfolio. On September 29, 1984, the former parent company was listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange. In the last quarter of 2016, the Public Investment Fund and Mohamed al-Abbar, the founder of Emaar Properties, acquired a majority stake in the group's former parent company through their joint investment company, Adeptio AD Investments Ltd, leading to a mandatory tender offer for the capital, and the parent company delisted its shares from the Kuwaiti financial markets on April 23, 2018.
Between June 27 and August 25, 2022, the parent company transferred all its operations to the issuer, as well as its capital contribution to the selling shareholder and minority shareholders in the parent company. On August 29, 2022, the issuer was re-registered to become a public limited company with its name changed from 'Americana Restaurants Ltd' to 'Americana Restaurants International PLC'.
