The largest administrative province in terms of area is the Eastern Province, as its total area is approximately 540,000 km, comprising more than 27.6 percent of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's area.

The Eastern Province is a desert plain, stretching from the Arabian Gulf to ad-Dahna' Desert. It spans about 1,200 km, from the Kuwaiti borders in the north to ar-Rub' al-Khali in the south, which is the largest continuous sand desert in the world. The Eastern Province shares borders with Kuwait to the north, Qatar and Bahrain to the east, and the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman to the south.

Dammam is the capital of the province, and al-Ahsa Governorate comprises the biggest portion of its area, which includes more than three thousand palm plantations. Some of the province's main cities: Dhahran, al-Khubar, al-Qatif, al-Hufuf, al-Mubarraz, al-Uyun, Buqayq, Ras Tannurah, al-Jubayl, al-Khafji, Hafr al-Batin, and an-Nu'ayriyyah.
