The Philosophy Association is a non-profit civil society that enables those interested in philosophy to participate in the community in the philosophical field. It aims to establish partnerships and collaborations with both government and private entities to contribute to the growth of philosophical culture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was established in 2020 and is headquartered in Riyadh City.

Objectives

The objectives of the Philosophy Association include encouraging the community to engage in serious and continuous philosophical reading, creating an environment that nurtures philosophical and cultural talents, and providing cultural and artistic training for various segments of society in the field of philosophy. Additionally, it aims to highlight the creative aspect of philosophers and intellectuals, empower young talents to contribute to the philosophical and cultural movement, and support cultural initiatives in philosophy.

Initiatives and events

The Philosophy Association has launched several initiatives as a part of its plans to achieve its objectives. One of the most important initiatives launched in 2022 is the "Philosophical Research Grants Program," which aims to enrich Saudi research output and encourage those interested in philosophy to develop their research capabilities. The initiative seeks to open new scientific horizons and provide comprehensive scientific, financial, and institutional support by offering ten research grants in the field of philosophy. This allows for dedicated time for research and writing, followed by publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals. The Philosophy Association celebrates World Philosophy Day annually by organizing training workshops and discussion seminars.

In 2022, the Association launched the "Little Philosopher" program, targeting children, male and female teachers, and parents in various provinces of the Kingdom. The program includes activities, workshops, and competitions to develop dialogue skills as well as cognitive and non-cognitive skills.

Publications

The association has released a series of special publications, including the magazine "Muqabassat," which has published two issues by 2023, and the book (Philosophical Readings in Saudi Thought). The Association also publishes reviews of philosophical books, whether authored by its members or others. In addition to studies, researches, and philosophical articles.

The Philosophy Association's Harf

Harf, an acronym of "Riyadh Philosophical Circle," is a Saudi philosophical activity established in 2008. It aims to create a philosophical community in the Kingdom and foster a dialogical environment among those interested in philosophy. "Harf" began as an activity within the Riyadh Literary Club until 2020, after which it became a part of the activities of the Philosophy Association. Two books have been published by "Harf": "Philosophical Papers One" and "Philosophical Papers Two."

Philosophy Association competition

The association organizes a monthly philosophical terminology competition, awarding the first-place winner SAR5,000, the second-place winner SAR3,000, and the third-place winner SAR2,000. The association requires contestants to be either Saudi citizens or residents of the Kingdom. The submitted material must be original, not sourced from elsewhere, and not previously presented in any other competition. Submissions are accepted in either Arabic or English, with clear audio and video quality in the recording. The video must not exceed two minutes and must be submitted by the twentieth of each month. To diversify opportunities, anyone who has won the prize twice is not eligible to participate again. The association reserves the right to publish the submitted material on its website and social media channels.
