There are fifteen private universities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. They are Arab Open University, University of Business and Technology, Prince Sultan University, Fahad Bin Sultan University, Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University, Prince Muqrin Bin Abdulaziz University, Alfaisal University, al-Yamamah University, Dar al-Uloom University, Effat University, Dar al-Hekma University, Riyadh Elm University, Almaarefa University, al-Mustaqbal University, and Sulaiman al-Rajhi University.
The Ministry of Education in the Kingdom undertakes the supervision of private universities. Private universities and colleges are subject to the Universities Law issued in 2020. According to the law, the Council of Universities' Affairs holds the responsibility for endorsing and overseeing the regulations that pertain to private universities, colleges, and foreign university branches. Additionally, it makes recommendations for the establishment, merger, or dissolution of universities and their branches, private colleges, and foreign university branches, which are subsequently presented to the Council of Ministers for approval.
