The Raven Song Film is one of the narrative feature films in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is directed by the Saudi filmmaker Mohammed al-Salman, and it is his first narrative feature film. The Film Commission, a commission affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, selected it to represent the Kingdom in the 2023 Oscars for the Best International Film category. The film was nominated based on criteria set by the Saudi committee for the Oscars, chaired by the chief executive officer of the Film Commission.

Plot

The film tells the story of a man who considers writing a song to attract the attention of a girl he admires, only to discover that he has a brain tumor. The story is set in 2002 in the capital city of Riyadh.

The film competed internationally in the ninety-fifth Academy Awards. Participating films go through several selection phases before the announcement of the preliminary and final lists chosen by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organization that awards the Oscars. The Saudi Film Commission is the entity responsible for film-related activities in the Kingdom. Additionally, it represents the Kingdom at international film-related events. The commission was established on February 4, 2020, and is one of eleven cultural commissions whose establishment was approved at the same time by the Council of Ministers.
