His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Abdulaziz Bin Ayyaf has been the Mayor of the Riyadh Province at the Excellent Rank, since 2019. He is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Riyadh Holding Company and Riyadh Development Company, and has been an Urban Advisor at the Royal Commission for Riyadh City since 2019. He was a visiting scholar at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, in 2016. He also served as a lecturer and faculty member at King Saud University in 2012.

He is the ninth official to hold the position of Mayor of the Riyadh Province Municipality since the name of the Riyadh Municipality was changed to the Riyadh City Municipality in 1956. Prince Fahd Bin Faisal Bin Farhan​​ assumed the responsibility at that time, becoming the first Mayor of Riyadh City, and was granted the rank of Minister of State.

Academic qualifications

Prince Faisal Bin Abdulaziz Bin Ayyaf's academic journey began with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Building Sciences from King Saud University, where he graduated with honors in 2011. His graduation project was titled "Cultural and Recreational Urban Development for Central Historic Riyadh." He then pursued a Master's degree in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University in New York, USA, graduating in 2014. Additionally, he obtained another Master's degree in Urban Planning and Management from Harvard University, USA, in 2016, with a research thesis on urban construction and management titled "Riyadh and Gulf Cities".

Prince Faisal Bin Abdulaziz Bin Ayyaf has been studying for a Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley, since 2020. He has chosen urban development for Riyadh City as his research focus, covering areas such as urban management, technical analysis and urban design, urban governance, and housing. He has chosen the topic for his dissertation: "Aspects of Urbanization, Riyadh City Management, and Analyzing Urban Challenges with Rapid Administrative Growth and Institutional Progress."

Positions

He has held several prominent positions, including serving as a Design and Urban Studies Consultant at Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM) in Chicago, USA, and being appointed as an architect at Moriyama and Teshima Planners in Toronto, Canada, in 2011. He also worked at the High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh (now the Royal Commission for Riyadh City) in 2011. Later, he was appointed as an Urban Consultant at the Royal Commission for Riyadh City in 2019, and then as the Mayor of Riyadh Province at the Excellent Rank since 2019.
