The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia comprises thirteen administrative provinces. Each province is divided into governorates categorized as (A, B), which are under the authority of the province's governor. Each governate is subdivided into centers, also categorized as (A, B). The Eastern Province is the largest administrative province. It spans an expansive area of 540,000 km² and borders the Arabian Gulf to the east. Conversely, the smallest province is al-Bahah, covering an area of 12,000 km².
The largest Provinces in the Kingdom in descending order, are: The Eastern Province, Riyadh Province, al-Madinah al-Munawarah Province, Makkah al-Mukarramah Province, Tabuk Province, Najran Province, Hail Province, Northern Borders Province, al-Jawf Province, Aseer Province, Qassim Province, Jazan Province, and al-Bahah Province.
