Selected tools and materials were used in the construction of the Two Holy Mosques, with specifications suitable for the climatic conditions in the Kingdom. Among these materials is Thassos marble, which is used in the courtyards and surfaces of the Two Holy Mosques. This Greek white natural marble is specially imported for the Two Holy Mosques. What distinguishes this marble is its ability not to absorb heat during the day, no matter how intense it gets. It also has the feature of absorbing moisture through fine pores during the night, and during the day, it releases the moisture it absorbed at night, which keeps it cool even in high temperatures.
Italian Carrara marble was also used for the flooring of the Prophet's Mosque, covering an area of over ninety thousand m² due to its high quality. Moreover, fans equipped with water mist systems are used to reduce the ambient heat. All types of marble used are subject to the required quality standards and are compatible with the designs of the surfaces, floors, and walls of the Two Holy Mosques.
