Yes, driving is safe in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As part of its efforts to ensure security and public safety, the Kingdom dedicates Special Forces for Road Security. These forces monitor external routes interlinking the Kingdom’s provinces and cities via mobile and automated monitoring. Additionally, traffic teams are charged with handling traffic accidents and checking instances of road misconduct. These teams also collaborate with other entities to conduct criminal security and service functions, such as following up on traffic security incidents, emergencies, and rescue operations carried out by the Civil Defense and Saudi Red Crescent in coordination with security agencies.
The Kingdom has also established an integrated traffic safety assurance system, featuring extensive automated monitoring capabilities through the ‘Saher’ monitoring and tracking system, which is linked to command-and-control centers. Mobile patrols and the Special Forces for Road Security are entrusted with the road safety of all provinces throughout the Kingdom. Additionally, the combined length of the road network connecting cities, managed by the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, exceeds 75,000 km.
Ambulance centers contribute to serving road users in the Kingdom as needed. Specific hazardous locations have been identified in compliance with the Traffic Law, and road markings, reflectors, and signs have been installed. Protective barriers have also been erected at these locations following their identification. The Kingdom's attention to roads also includes paving works and fencing off both sides of the road to prevent the entry of stray animals.
