Ras Tanura Governorate

Ras Tanura Governorate is one of the governorates in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. It was formerly called Rahimah due to the presence of Rahimah Spring, which served as a water source.

Ras Tanura Governorate is classified as Category (B) and is a peninsula surrounded by the Arabian Gulf from three sides. It is located approximately 51.8 km away from the administrative capital of the Eastern Province, Dammam. The governorate covers an area of about 290 km and has a population of around 62,314.

It originated as a residential area for oil refining and a major export port. Currently, it is one of the most active oil ports in the world, represented by Ras Tanura Port. The port handles twenty percent of the world's oil exports and receives over two thousand ships annually.

Ras Tanura is a modern city that has evolved with the oil industry in the Kingdom. It is home to Ras Tanura Oil Port, established in 1939, the largest oil shipping port in the world. It also houses Ras Tanura Refinery, built in 1949, which is the world's largest oil refinery. The city is also known for its Ghazlan Steam Power Plant, one of the largest steam power plants in the Middle East. Additionally, Ju'aymah Gas Plant is located in Ras Tanura and is the largest natural gas fractionation plant in the world.

King Fahd International Airport services the governorate in Dammam, since it is the closest airport to the governorate. The airport is an international one with a capacity of about eight million passengers annually and is located 47.3 km from the city center.

Highway 613 is the main land transport center in Ras Tanura, where the governorate can be accessed and moved between the main cities in the Kingdom.
