Al-Mithnab is one of the agricultural governorates of al-Qassim Province in the center of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is about sixty-five km away from the administrative capital, Buraydah. It is home to over fifty villages, Bedouin settlements, and communities. Over 43,278 people live in al-Mithnab Governorate in an area covering 4,500 km, according to the 2022 Saudi census.

Name choice

The governorate derives its name from the valleys that cross its lands, and these waters flow until they reach the end of the valley. The word al-Mithnab in al-Muhit dictionary is explained as the water that flows down. Its ancient names include Faihan, al-Dhana'ib, and al-Mithaneb.

Al-Mithnab is bordered by Unaizah from the north, as well as Riyadh and al-Amar District in al-Qassim from the south, al-Rass and al-Badayea from the west, and al-Shamasiyah from the east.

Most famous landmarks in al-Mithnab

Al-Mithnab is characterized by fertile soil and includes the largest green spaces of al-Qassim Province. Among its most famous landmarks is the historic Mithnab Village, also known as al-Dirah, which extends over an area of 2 km. It has more than 384 homes, as well as the ancient Souk Al-Majlis (Janadriyah al-Qassim,) Bahla Palace which dates back to the sixteenth century AD, Bahla Palace Mosque, and al-Saheq Palace. Moreover, al-Mithnab is surrounded to the south by a petrified forest, the largest in al-Qassim Province.
