Al-Haditha Border Port, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's largest land port and the Levant’s gateway to the Arabian Gulf States, connects the Kingdom with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, along with the border posts of Halat Ammar and Durra. It is located on the northern border of the Kingdom in al-Qurayyat Governorate in al-Jawf Province, at the Jordanian border strip, which is approximately 745 km long.
Traffic in al-Haditha Border Port
Transit through the border port attracts about two million travelers annually, and passenger traffic increases during the holidays as well as during the Hajj and Umrah seasons.
Al-Haditha Border Port is one of fourteen land border ports overseen by the Ministry of Interior, represented by the General Directorate of Border Guard and the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority. These ports link the Kingdom to eight Gulf and Arab states.
The border port lies approximately thirty-six km from the Saudi al-Qurayyat Governorate and about 135 km from Jordan's Zarqa Governorate. On the Jordanian side, al-Omari Border Port is opposite al-Haditha Border Port.
Development of al-Haditha Border Port
Al-Haditha Border Port was modernized in 2019 as part of a project by the General Customs Authority (currently the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority) to develop air and sea ports. In order to boost the economy in accordance with Saudi Vision 2030, the first stages of operating the revamped facilities began gradually during the same year, up until 2023.
Developmental projects at the border port include upgrading and enhancing the operational environment at the passenger terminal building; improving security systems; installing low-power x-ray gates at customs departure areas (passengers and cargo); installing smart gates at customs’ entry and departure areas (passengers and cargo); and installing radiographic inspection equipment for cargo entry.
