NEOM Bay Airport (IATA: NUM) is a commercial domestic airport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the first airport to use 5G technology in the Middle East. The airport opened in 2019 in the village of Sharma, Tabuk Province, northwest of the Kingdom.
The airport is part of the air, land, and sea transport system of the futuristic NEOM city project, one of the projects of Saudi Vision 2030 for entrepreneurship and economic diversification, and is also the stepping stone to the planned international airport set to be built to serve the city.
Strategic significance of NEOM Bay Airport
NEOM Airport is strategically important by virtue of its location, which facilitates the arrival of 40 percent of the world's population to the city of NEOM within a maximum of six hours.
The first flight took off towards Neom Bay Airport on June 30, 2019, via Saudia from the King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. During its initial phase, the airport’s services were limited to providing transportation services to investors and employees of the NEOM city project.
Launch of regular international flights from NEOM Bay Airport
In a step that is considered a starting point for the commercial services in the airport, NEOM announced a strategic partnership with Saudia to operate regular international flights from NEOM Bay Airport to select destinations on May 23, 2022, starting by the end of June 2022, with weekly flights to Dubai, in addition to future plans for direct flights to London.
Under this partnership, Saudia will operate direct flights to and from NEOM Bay Airport, and some aircraft departing from the airport will be emblazoned with joint insignia combining the identities of Saudia and the NEOM brand.
