Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz International Airport (IATA: MED) is an international airport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is located in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, the administrative capital of Al-Madinah al-Munawwarah province, west of the Kingdom. Also known as Madinah Airport, it is the aerial gateway to the Prophet’s Mosque and is the second-most important airport for receiving Hajj and Umrah pilgrims after the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.

Inaugurated in 1950, the Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz International Airport is one of the first airports in the Kingdom and was ranked as the best regional airport in the Middle East in 2020 by global airline and airport ratings organization Skytrax.

The airport's capacity is about eight million passengers per year, with a total area of four million m. The airport is ranked fourth among Saudi international airports in terms of air traffic density. In 2019, a total of 60,605 international and domestic flights arrived and departed from the airport, carrying 8,381,231 passengers.
Development of Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz International Airport
The airport witnessed an array of development and expansion works and reopened with its new facilities in 2015. It was the first Saudi airport to be constructed and operated via the build, transfer of ownership, and operate system (BTO) within the Kingdom’s general orientation of the privatization of government sectors, in line with the objectives of Vision 2030 to develop the national economy and promote private sector participation in the Saudi economy.

The airport is located about twenty km from the Prophet’s Mosque and can be reached from within al-Madinah al-Munawwarah through three routes: Airport Road, King Abdulaziz Road, and King Salman Road, within twenty-five minutes.
