Shaybarah Island is an uninhabited island on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast. It is located northwest of Khowara Marina, between the cities of al-Wajh and Ummlujj in Tabuk Region, about 8.4 NM from the coast. The island’s development began within the first phase of the Red Sea project, which includes more than ninety reef-rich Saudi islands close to the shore.

Topography of Shaybarah Island

Shaybarah Island is an irregularly shaped longitudinal island with a surface area of about 19.8 km, with some bays penetrating deep inward, especially from the west and north. The island stretches from the northwest to the southeast and is located on the southwestern tip of the coral barrier, extending from Birrim Island in the northwest, towards the northeast, to the Suwayhil Islands, some of whose small heads are covered by Avicennia shrubs (Avicennia germinans). Four small atolls and low-lying sandbars surround Shaybarah Island, and Avicennia grows on its littoral areas.

Development of Shaybarah Island

A team of designers, engineers, boat owners, divers, and technicians, under the supervision of the development team from Killa Design, which specializes in architectural design, is working to place guidance buoys in precisely defined spots using concrete blocks to avoid harming coral reefs in the island's waters and to reduce the impact of construction on the ecosystem.

After the completion of the development project, the island will include floating villas on water and on land with a dune-inspired design, using polished steel to reflect the images of water, sky, and coral reefs.

Use of technology in Shaybarah Island’s development

The Red Sea Global team utilized modern techniques to ensure a minimal impact of construction works on the ecosystem, placing guidance buoys in their designated locations using concrete blocks to prevent any damage to coral reefs.

After completing the placement of the buoys, the on-site team filmed the markings using aerial drones, pinpointing their locations to give the company's management, designers, and engineers a clearer picture that enables them to operate according to the project’s master plan.

The island’s development within the project's work coincides with the establishment of Staff City, the new Red Sea International Airport, Desert Rock Mountain Resort, and the Southern Dunes Desert Resort.
