Saudi Sailing Federation

The Saudi Sailing Federation is a sports federation founded on December 5, 2017, to manage sailing activities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and organize its domestic championships. It represents the Kingdom in Arab and international sailing events. Operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Sport and the Saudi Olympic Committee, its main headquarters is located in Jeddah City, the Kingdom.

Sailing is a physical, sports, recreational, or professional activity that relies on the sailor's ability to control the sailing vessel using the sail, to steer its course, maintain its balance, and adjust its speed considering the factors of waves and wind. It necessitates an understanding of air dynamics and ocean currents, endowing the practitioner of sailing with quick decision-making abilities and the capacity to face obstacles.

The Saudi Sailing Federation works to promote sailing sports, highlight their physical and mental benefits, support the national sailors' community, encourage hobbyists and those with latent skills, and increase the number of practitioners of these sports.

The federation provides training opportunities by supporting clubs and centers that practice sailing and windsurfing. It facilitates participation in local and international competitions, aiming to prepare competitors for an Olympic level in Saudi sailing.

Sailing has been included in the Olympic Games and sports since the first Games in Athens in 1896. The sport of sailing requires the art of controlling sailboats, endurance and agility, physical fitness, and mental focus.

Sailing sport is divided into: individual windsurfing, through the control of a small windsurfing board or a sail-propelled or towed surfboard over water, and its types include windsurfing, kiteboarding, kitesurfing; and sailing by sailboat, controlling a wind-propelled watercraft, formerly known as yachting.

The Saudi Sailing Federation oversaw the sailing competitions as part of the events of the Saudi Games, which began on November 4, 2022. The competitions were held at al-Jubayl Marine Sports Club.
