The beginning of formal education in Taif
Dar al-Tawheed Schools in Taif are among the oldest schools in Saudi Arabia and the first formal school in the country. They were established during the reign of King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud in 1945 and were named Dar al-Tawheed, a name personally chosen by King Abdulaziz. He directly oversaw their establishment and linked them to the Political Division of the Royal Court, granting them financial and moral privileges to encourage parents to enroll their children.
Public schools in Taif
According to 2017 statistical data, the total number of public schools in Taif Governorate across its three educational levels—primary, intermediate, and secondary—reached approximately 379 public schools for males, with 82,168 students, and 395 public schools for females, with around 85,895 students. This brought the total number of students in public schools in Taif to 168,063 male and female students.
Meanwhile, the number of private schools in Taif Governorate for the same educational levels reached sixty-one private schools for males, with around 12,836 students, and fifty private schools for females, with 4,771 students. The total number of students in private schools amounted to 17,607 students.
All schools in Taif operate under the supervision of the General Directorate of Education in Taif Governorate, which oversees all educational affairs in Taif Governorate. Its responsibilities include educational supervision, training and scholarships, examinations and admissions, special education, gifted student programs, adult education, student guidance and counseling, and extracurricular activities.
Higher education in Taif
Taif Governorate has one public university, Taif University, which was established in 2004. The number of its male and female students is approximately 42,765, and the number of its male and female graduates is 13,400, according to 2024 statistics.
Additionally, Taif has a technical college for males and another for females, both affiliated with the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC). The TVTC also oversees the Vocational Training Institute in Taif and the Industrial Institute in Taif.
