Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Bazie is an advisor at the Ministry of Culture, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Theater and Performing Arts Commission in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the former chairman of the board of directors of the Saudi Arabian Society for Culture and Arts.

Education and early career of Sultan Al-Bazie

Sultan Al-Bazie completed his university studies at King Saud University in Riyadh City, earning a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1979. After graduation, he pursued a career in his field of study, starting as a correspondent for al-Riyadh Newspaper. He was later promoted to managing editor of the newspaper. He then joined the Ministry of Higher Education (now the Ministry of Education), where he worked for some time before being assigned to France to serve in the Saudi Cultural Mission between 1985-1988. Upon completing his assignment, he was appointed secretary of the Committee for International Cultural Relations at the same ministry.
Sultan Al-Bazie worked as a war correspondent for al-Riyadh Newspaper, accompanying a U.S. Marine Corps unit during the Liberation of Kuwait War. In 1993, he was appointed Editor-in-Chief of al-Yaum Newspaper in Dammam City, where he enhanced the newspaper and transitioned it to digital publishing systems. He held this position until 1997 when he returned to the government sector. He spent some time at the Ministry of Education before moving to the Directorate of National Guard (now the Ministry of National Guard), where he was appointed General Director of Relations and Protocols and served as the Media Officer for the Janadriyah National Heritage and Cultural Festival.

Positions and professional experience of Sultan Al-Bazie

Sultan Al-Bazie ventured into freelance work, serving as a part-time advisor to the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (now the Ministry of Investment). During this time, he participated in international conferences and contributed to organizing and connecting the authority with local and international media outlets. He later worked as a media advisor for the King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue. While working with the center, he oversaw the plans for its second and third sessions in Makkah al-Mukarramah City and al-Madinah al-Munawwarah City, which included organizing media conferences and daily interactions with the media.
He returned to the private sector after being appointed CEO of Attariq Communication. He was also selected as the official spokesperson for the General Committee of Municipal Council Elections in its first session. Under his leadership, the company executed a public relations campaign to raise awareness about the importance of the elections across Saudi Arabia. In recognition of these efforts, he was awarded the Public Relations Man of the Year in 2005. Additionally, he was appointed by a decision by the Council of Ministers as a member of the National Committee for Regulating Digital Media Content, representing civil society organizations. He is also a board member of the Saudi Heritage Preservation Society, 'We Are Our Heritage.'

Sultan Al-Bazie's presidency of the Theater and Performing Arts Sector

In 2020, Sultan Al-Bazie was appointed CEO of the Theater and Performing Arts Sector following the Minister of Culture's announcement of eleven new commissions. He was entrusted with developing Saudi theater, its related regulations, and the performing arts in general. His responsibilities included attracting investments by enhancing the sector's key roles, encouraging all professionals, creatives, specialists, and amateurs, and supporting the theater industry and production.

He was appointed in 2022 as the CEO of the Music Commission, succeeding its former head, Mohammed Abdullah al-Mulhim. Al-Bazie was tasked with managing the commission’s operations and ensuring the continued implementation of the strategy for developing the music sector in Saudi Arabia. He held this position alongside his role as CEO of the Theater and Performing Arts Commission from 2020 until 2024.
