His Excellency Fahad Bin Abdulrahman al-Jalajel has been the Minister of Health of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since October 15, 2021. He served as Deputy Minister of Health for Planning and Development since 2016 and worked at the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (currently the Ministry of Investment) for seven years in various administrative positions, the last of which was the Acting General Manager for Information Technology.

He went on to work at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (currently the Ministry of Commerce) as an adviser to the minister. He also served as the General Supervisor for IT, and prior to that as former Undersecretary of Commerce for Consumer Affairs.

His education

Al-Jalajel received a bachelor's in Computer Science from King Saud University. After graduating, he received a postgraduate scholarship to the United States. He enrolled at St. Joseph's University in Pennsylvania and earned a master's in Computer Science.

He then went on to study Managerial Leadership at MIT Sloan Business School in the United States, where he obtained his executive certificate.

His positions

Prior to his appointment as Minister of Health, al-Jalajel started working with the Computer Society and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, where he was appointed Director of the Open-Source Operating Systems Project in 1998, before he moved to work for the General Investment Authority (currently Ministry of Investment) in 2001, as Director of Networks and Operation.

He was then promoted to Acting Director General of IT in 2007 and remained in office until his appointment to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry – prior to the separation of the duties of the Ministries of Commerce and Industry. Al-Jalajel served as the Minister’s IT Adviser, then became Adviser to the Minister of Commerce and Industry, and General Supervisor of IT at the ministry.

In 2012, he was appointed Undersecretary of the Ministry for Consumer Affairs and maintained his position at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (currently the Ministry of Commerce) until a royal order was issued in 2016, appointing him as Deputy Minister of Health for Planning and Development. He is a member of several councils, including the Medical Cities Executive Council and the Council of Health Insurance.

Former memberships

He was a member of several boards and programs, including: the Board of Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization; the National Energy Efficiency Program; the Board of Riyadh Regional Council; the Board of Directors of the Saudi Grain Silos and Flour Mills Organization (currently General Food Security Authority) and the Competition Protection Council (currently General Authority for Competition).

He was also a member of the Preparatory Committee for the Ministerial Supply Committee, as well as the Board of Directors of Tamkeen, affiliated with the Human Resources Development Fund. He was a member of the Board of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (currently Ministry of Tourism), the Board of Directors of the Cooperative Societies, and the Board of Directors of the Jeddah Development and Urban Regeneration.
