Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman Bin Faisal Bin Turki Bin Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud (1875 - 1949) is the older sister of the Founder of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, and played the role of the first lady during his reign. Princess Nourah's personality was characterized by wisdom, religiousness, adept management, humility, love of people, and aiding those in need. Her mother is Princess Sarah Bint Ahmed Bin Mohammed al-Sudairi, who is considered one of the most famous women of her time, known for her wisdom and influential personality.

Princess Nourah provided her brother, King Abdulaziz, with encouragement and support as he resolved to recapture Riyadh. She served as a pivotal source of motivation in bolstering his determination to restore the Saudi State.

Life of Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman

Women used to come to Princess Nourah in her palace in Riyadh to learn and seek support for their needs. She would then submit these requests to her brother, King Abdulaziz, who would address women's affairs and meet their needs. Princess Nourah was renowned for caring for children, encouraging them, and providing support for their education and families. She would welcome, honor, and celebrate female visitors and guests at the palace.

She married Prince Saud Bin Abdulaziz Bin Saud Bin Faisal and settled in al-Shamsiya Farm in Riyadh, where a palace was constructed for her.

Due to her elevated stature with her brother, King Abdulaziz, the latter would boastfully declare, 'I am the brother of Nourah' and 'I am the brother of al-Anwar.' This sense of chivalry permeated the royal family, leading its members to be nicknamed 'brothers of Nourah,' marking a significant recognition of women's stature within the Saudi State since King Abdulaziz's reign.

Stature of Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman

Princess Nourah symbolizes Saudi women who contribute to humanitarian efforts and actively engage in community development. She left a notable mark in Saudi history and, with her pioneering personality, played a significant role in social and charitable works. She was also wise, open-minded, supportive of those in need, and a pioneering figure in Saudi society.

She shared a special, brotherly relationship with King Abdulaziz. The king was keen to visit her daily and consulted her on most family and community matters. Additionally, she interceded for him in the affairs of many people in need.

The first and largest Saudi women's university bears her name, Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University. Its new university city was inaugurated in Riyadh in 2011, covering an area of more than eight million m.

Renovation of Princess Nourah's Palace (al-Shamsiya)

On September 11, 2019, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, issued a directive to renovate the historic palace of Princess Nourah (al-Shamsiya Palace), located near al-Murabba neighborhood in the capital, Riyadh. The Founder King Abdulaziz ordered its construction in 1935 for Prince Saud Bin Abdulaziz Bin Saud Bin Faisal and his sister Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman al-Faisal Al Saud.

Death of Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman

Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman Bin Faisal Al Saud passed at the age of seventy-seven, in 1949.
