Ad-Dir'iyyah was founded in 1446 on the banks of Wadi Hanifah and became the capital of the First Saudi State in 1727. Located just fifteen minutes northwest of the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, it possesses several heritage components that are being developed through Diriyah Gate Project.

At-Turaif Heritage District:

Built in 1766, it was inscribed on the World Heritage List by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2010. It is one of the prominent historical districts of the Arabian Peninsula, having witnessed the establishment of the First Saudi State. It is situated atop the southwestern hill of historical ad-Dir'iyyah.

Al-Bujairi District:

Al-Bujairi District is distinguished by its cultural value and strategic location, situated on the eastern side of Wadi Hanifah, opposite at-Turaif District. The district was home to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulwahhab and his family, along with students of knowledge.

Wadi Hanifah’s landscapes and gardens:

Ad-Dir'iyyah features natural landscapes stretching three km, with two km² of historical Wadi Hanifah, including historic palm groves and farms.

Diriyah Gate:

‘Diriyah Gate’ is a heritage and cultural project launched in 2019, aimed at making historical ad-Dir'iyyah one of the prominent tourist and cultural destinations and gathering places in the region and the world.

The project seeks to establish several museums, world-class hotels with historical designs, traditional-style markets, educational centers, cultural and heritage academies, and vocational education institutions.

Ad-Dir'iyyah Development Project:

Valued at SAR64 billion and covering an area of seven km², it includes the creation of a new global landmark in the Najdi architectural style, making ad-Dir'iyyah home to more than twenty hospitality venues. It targets over one hundred thousand residents and expects fifty million visits by 2030.

Ad-Dir'iyyah Initiatives:

The Diriyah Gate Project includes several initiatives, such as ‘Diriyah Calligraphy,’ ‘Aesthetics of Manuscripts in Diriyah’ initiative, ‘Diriyah in Historical Maps,’ and the ‘Comprehensive Documentation Project’ for ad-Dir'iyyah's history, the ‘Jewel of the Kingdom.’

The Northern Cultural District:

This district includes King Salman University, King Salman Square, King Salman Library, and Al Saud Museum, which is one of the major museums within the Diriyah Gate Project.
