Al-Bujairi District is one of the historical sites in the city of ad-Dir'iyyah, the capital of the First Saudi State. Today, the district is located within a historical area that includes the districts of al-Sahl and al-Muraih. Al-Bujairi acquired its name due to its surface below al-Buraiji level and its propensity to fill with water flowing in from the neighboring valleys of Imran villages. Initially designated as al-Bujari, it was later shortened, following the customs of the people of Najd, to al-Bujairi.

Significance of al-Bujairi District

The mention of al-Bujairi District has been associated with science and culture because it was one of the centers of science and knowledge during the era of the First Saudi State. It houses the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulwahhab Mosque, which served as a hub for forensic science at the time of its establishment. The mosque amassed a collection of books that facilitated the dissemination of knowledge and advocacy, attracting numerous scholars who studied there.

Al-Bajairi District is the home of many historical monuments, including al-Dwaihra Mosque; one of al-Bujairi District’s ancient landmarks. The mosque was built in the era of the First Saudi State and underwent restoration following rehabilitation procedures for mud-built heritage buildings.

Al-Bujairi District is distinguished by its western facing towards the historic al-Turaif District, the main district of ad-Dir'iyyah during the First Saudi State. It overlooks Salwa Palace, Beit al-Mal, and al-Turaif Mosque, which gave rise to the idea of al-Bujairi Terrace.

Development of al-Bujairi District

Within the Historic ad-Dir'iyyah Development Program, and under the supervision of ad-Dir'iyyah Gate Development Authority, al-Bujairi was rebranded as al-Bajiri Terrace. A comprehensive development and upgrading process was implemented, focusing on infrastructure and available services. This included the addition of five-star restaurants and cafes to enhance the quality of hospitality services provided.
