The Saudi Electric Services Polytechnic in Riyadh is an institute that qualifies technicians for specialized work. Located in Riyadh City, it is one of the branches of the Saudi Electric Services Polytechnic (SESP), which was opened in 2014. The Saudi Technical Institutes for Electrical Services were established upon a decision from the Council of Ministers at the beginning of 2010. It was the product of a partnership between the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation and the Saudi Electricity Company.
SESP branches
The Technical and Vocational Training Corporation operates the institute in partnership with the Saudi Electricity Company to qualify Saudi professionals in the electrical energy field. It has three branches across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The first is located in Baysh Governorate, Jazan Province, and was established in 2012. The second is located in Juaymah, Ras Tannurah Governorate, Eastern Province, and was established in 2013. The last is located in Riyadh City and was established in 2014.
Specializations at the Saudi Electric Services Polytechnic in Riyadh
SESP offers internationally recognized certifications in health and safety, welding technology, and other specializations. It provides training in twenty-four different specializations across various energy fields.
In 2017, the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), which specializes in the accreditation of vocational disciplines, accredited vocational specializations in electrical services at SESP. The accreditation includes mechanical maintenance for power generation stations, electrical cables, and overhead transmission line maintenance.
Qualifying the trainees of SESP
In 2023, SESP launched a training program for its trainees in wind energy and solar energy in collaboration with King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy. This program is the first of its kind in the Kingdom, offering training in wind energy. It offers professional certifications from the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) and the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP).
The program includes training tracks for bachelor's degree holders in related fields for six months, for diploma holders in related fields for one year, and for high school graduates for two years. It also provides professional training for local cadres in specialized wind and solar energy fields.
SESP is equipped with facilities and laboratories for renewable energy training workshops, as well as the first mobile training facility accredited by the Global Wind Organisation in the Middle East. It also features wind energy training equipment with solar energy units for a comprehensive on-site training program.
