The Saudi Petroleum Services Polytechnic is a specialized technical institute dedicated to preparing workers in the petroleum services field. The idea of establishing it was proposed in 2005. In the same year, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Energy, Industry, and Mineral Resources (currently the Ministry of Energy), the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation, and Saudi Arabian "Chevron" to create the institute. The institute was established with two hundred students sponsored by four companies in 2008. By 2016, the graduates had reached 1,557, with sponsorship from ninety-two companies.

Contents of the Saudi Petroleum Services Polytechnic

The institute covers an area of approximately 67,000 m² and includes eleven training workshops, with an area of 1,200 m², equipped with two classrooms. The institute features seventeen classrooms, each with a capacity of twenty trainees, six laboratories with a total capacity of 120 trainees, and a multipurpose room that can accommodate 130 trainees. Additionally, there is a hall with a capacity of four hundred people.

Saudi Petroleum Services Polytechnic programs

The institute offers a range of training programs to support the training and development needs of companies specializing in the oil and gas industry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including:

- Diploma programs: Industrial security and critical facilities, mechanics, welding, pipefitting, operations, HVAC, preparation and loading, drilling, scaffolding, crane operation and heavy lifting operations, electrical, and academic program.

- Engineer development program: National Vocational Qualifications and the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) certification.

- On-site company training.

Registration requirements at the Saudi Petroleum Services Polytechnic:

The registration requirements at the Saudi Petroleum Services Polytechnic include that the applicant must be a Saudi national, have a high school diploma in the scientific track with a minimum score of 70 percent, score at least sixty in the General Aptitude Test, and the test must have been completed within the last five years. The applicant must score at least thirty-one in the (STEP) English proficiency test, must not have received previous support from the Human Resources Development Fund "Hadaf", must be no older than twenty-eight years, and must be medically fit.

Benefits for students at the Saudi Petroleum Services Polytechnic

The institute offers several benefits to its students, including medical insurance, registration with social insurance, a monthly stipend of at least SAR3,000, and an accredited diploma from the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation upon graduation. There are no training fees at the institute, and study materials and safety equipment are distributed to trainees free of charge at the start of the training. The institute provides housing and transportation services for trainees and offers job opportunities for graduates within the sponsoring companies. An employment contract is signed between the trainees and the companies after passing the admission test and the personal interview at the beginning of the training program.
