AlUla International Airport is one of the airports in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was established in 2011 as a domestic airport and was transformed into an international airport in 2021. It is located in AlUla Governorate in the northern part of Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah Province, west of Saudi Arabia. It serves fifteen administrative centers affiliated with the governorate. It is supported by Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah and Prince Abdulmohsen Bin Abdulaziz Airport in Yanbu. Its operation is entrusted to the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).

Significance of AlUla International Airport

AlUla International Airport gains significance from serving as a key gateway, linking visitors to the renowned tourist and archaeological destinations in AlUla Governorate, including Hegra, the first Saudi site to be listed on the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage List.

Capacity of AlUla International Airport

The airport was established with a capacity of no more than 250,000 passengers. In ten years, its capacity increased to four hundred thousand passengers annually, with a total area of 2.4 million m. A decision was issued by the General Authority of Civil Aviation to convert it into an international airport in 2021.

Air traffic at AlUla International Airport

Air traffic increased in AlUla International Airport in conjunction with the tourist activity in the governorate, and the launch of the annual Winter at Tantora Festival in 2018. AlUla International Airport is about fifty km away from the archaeological city of Hegra and about twenty-five km east of AlUla Governorate. It can be reached in about twenty-six minutes by car via King Abdulaziz Road, and by turning towards Tariq Bin Ziad Road.
