Al-Dayer is one of the governorates of Jazan Province in the southwest of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where, according to the 2022 Saudi census, 3.4 percent of Jazan's population, estimated at 47,424 people, live.

Al-Dayer location

Al-Dayer Governorate is located in the northeast of Jazan Province, 105 km east of the city. It is bordered to the north by Aseer Province, to the east by the Republic of Yemen, to the west by the Harub and al-Aidabi governorates, as well as a portion of the administrative scope of Jazan City, and to the south by Fifa and al-Aridhah governorates, the eastern part of the administrative scope of Jazan City, and the Republic of Yemen. Seven centers are administratively affiliated with the governorate: al-Hashr, al-Zaidan, Daffa, al-Athwan, al-Salaf, al-Janibah, and al-Shajiah.

Accessing al-Dayer Governorate

Residents and visitors of al-Dayer Governorate use King Abdullah Airport in Jazan, the closest airport, which is 104 km away. It has a capacity of about nine hundred thousand passengers a year. Road No. 5 passes through the western borders of the governorate. It is the main land transportation hub and the available means of access to and from al-Dayer Governorate.

Nature of al-Dayer Governorate

Al-Dayer Governorate includes many mountains, most notably Talan, al-Athwan, Khasher, al-Hashr, Arif, Shahdan, al-Rumaih, al-Shajiah, Habbes, al-Anka, and al-Qateel. The governorate is also home to several valleys, most notably Damad and Dafa valleys, in addition to tourist sites and mountain views, the most famous of which is Mount Talan, one of the highest peaks in Jazan Province, rising about 2,300 m above sea level, as well as the high green mountains of al-Hashr, which are characterized by cold weather throughout the year.

Agriculture in al-Dayer Governorate

Al-Dayer Governorate is famous for its agricultural terraces which grow corn, millet, barley, banana, pineapple, guava, mango, orange, and Khawlani coffee beans. Some of its distinguished trees are: Juniper, Albizia lebbeck, Ficus vasta Forssk, Christ's thorn jujube, and Dodonaea, in addition to various varieties of medicinal plants and aromatic trees such as Pandanus tectorius and Artemisia judaica.
