
Abbas Faig Ghazzawi (1932–2005) is a broadcaster, writer, media figure, and diplomat. He served as the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Germany, Chad, and Tunisia and was awarded the Order of King Abdulaziz Al Saud of Excellent Class in 1978.
Life of Abbas Ghazzawi
Abbas Ghazzawi was born in al-Falaq District in Makkah al-Mukarramah. He completed his elementary education at the Saudi School in al-Mu'alla and his secondary education at the Preparatory School for Scholarships. He then enrolled at Cairo University and earned a bachelor's degree in law in 1959.
His career in media
Abbas Ghazzawi began his media career in 1952 while still a high school student. He started as a radio presenter and program host, and after completing his university studies, he returned to broadcasting as a radio program production manager. He later supervised the editorial operations of Umm al-Qura Newspaper before becoming the Director General of Radio. He was appointed Director General of Radio and Television when Saudi television was established.
During his radio career, Abbas Ghazzawi presented several programs, such as the children's show "Baba Abbas", which became widely known by his name, "Dunya" and "Fi al-Tariq" programs. On television, he hosted Nadwat al-Tilifizyun and Waqfat Ta'ammul. In addition, Abbas Ghazzawi wrote numerous articles and stories covering political and social topics, which were published in newspapers and aired on the radio.
His diplomatic career
In 1966, Abbas Ghazzawi transitioned to work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Director General of External Media. His diplomatic career began with his appointment as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Italy in 1970. In 1972, he was appointed Saudi ambassador to Chad. From 1977 to 1984, he headed the Department of African, Asian, and Islamic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was then appointed ambassador of the Kingdom to Tunisia in 1984, and later ambassador to Germany in 1986, a position he held for fifteen years until 2001.
Death of Abbas Ghazzawi
Abbas Ghazzawi passed away in 2005 in Monte Carlo, Monaco, at the age of seventy-three, after battling an illness.
