
Fawzan al-Sabiq Bin Fawzan Bin Othman al-Sabiq (1859–1954) was a Saudi politician and diplomat who served as the Minister Plenipotentiary of the Founding King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud to Egypt.
Fawzan al-Sabiq's life
Fawzan al-Sabiq was born and raised in Buraydah City, Qassim Province. He learned the basics of reading and writing and memorized the Holy Quran at a young age in his local school. Later, he studied under prominent scholars such as Nasser Bin Suleiman al-Saif, Suleiman Bin Muqbil, Mohammed Bin Omar Al Suleim, and Mohammed Bin Abdullah Bin Suleim.
Before the age of twenty, he worked in the trade of camels and horses, but his actual trade career began after completing his learning travels. He used to buy horses and camels and travel with al-Oqaylat caravans to the Levant, Iraq, and Egypt.
When King Abdulaziz entered Riyadh in 1902, Fawzan al-Sabiq met with him and earned his trust, becoming one of his men. He participated with the king in the Battle of Jarrab in 1915 and several other battles.
His work in diplomacy
In 1925, King Abdulaziz sent Fawzan al-Sabiq to Egypt. Following the announcement of the unification of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1932, Fawzan al-Sabiq became Saudi Arabia's representative in Egypt. The office was elevated to a mission after the signing of the Friendship Treaty with Egypt in 1936. He was appointed as the Minister Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom to Egypt.
He was delegated by King Abdulaziz to attend the establishment of the first protocol for the Arab League. He retired from his diplomatic position in 1946, at his request, and passed away in Cairo two months after the death of King Abdulaziz at the age of ninety-five.
His literary and intellectual contributions
Fawzan al-Sabiq contributed to printing many Islamic references from the major books at King Abdulaziz's expense, providing universities and libraries with the necessary copies.
