
The School-Based Health Awareness Program is an educational initiative launched by the Ministry of Health in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It targets the school community and focuses on various awareness activities and initiatives aimed at enhancing health knowledge, shaping attitudes, and instilling healthy behaviors within the school community.
At the beginning of each academic year, the Ministry of Health launches a new awareness campaign as part of the school health initiatives in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. On August 21, 2022, the ministry launched a campaign under the slogan "Your Share of Health," as part of the School-Based Health Awareness Program. On August 21, 2023, the Ministry of Health launched the School-Based Health Awareness Program as part of a comprehensive school health initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. The program includes the Exploratory Screening Program and fitness assessments for first-grade students, aimed at enhancing school health, promoting preventive measures, and ensuring early detection of health issues.
Objectives of the School-Based Health Awareness Program
The Ministry of Health aims through the School-Based Health Awareness Program to achieve several objectives, including introducing all students to their health issues and enhancing their self-management of these issues, in addition to raising health awareness among students on health topics and promoting healthy behavior within the school community.
Components of the School-Based Health Awareness Program
The program is based on three components. The first component focuses on "GCC/International Days," such as GCC School Health Day, Adolescent and Youth Health Day, World Diabetes Day, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and World No Tobacco Day.
The second component of the program is titled "Awareness Visits" and includes oral and dental health, adolescent health and healthy marriage, communicable diseases and their prevention, mental health and video game addiction, and physical activity and obesity control. The third component is titled "Awareness Programs" and includes food awareness and healthy sleep.
