Importance of one-day surgery
The one-day surgery system is important in that it serves patients and fulfills their aspirations to obtain high-quality medical services. The system shortens waiting lists in hospitals of all specialties for routine surgeries and contributes to increasing bed turnover rates and shortening patients' hospitalization duration.
The one-day surgery system contributes to increasing bed occupancy rates where the number of one-day surgeries amounted to 22,000 surgeries over six months of 2010. These figures were translated into providing 66,000 treatment nights, thus representing an increase of 30 percent over the first six months of the previous year.
