The Human Rights Commitment Enhancement Initiative is a government initiative launched by the Ministry of Justice in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It aims to enhance the commitment of judicial entities to human rights, which are guaranteed by Sharia and stipulated in international charters and agreements, achieving the values of justice and transparency related to human rights.

Working mechanism of the Human Rights Commitment Enhancement Initiative

The initiative works on clarifying the concept of human rights, including the principles and applications it encompasses. It focuses on establishing an institutional mechanism and a technical system that monitors violations and proposes remedies. Additionally, it seeks to raise the efficiency of human rights management personnel, strengthen commitment to rights, analyze and measure commitment gaps, and provide legislative, technical, and procedural solutions to further strengthen human rights commitment.

Target groups of the Human Rights Commitment Enhancement Initiative

The Human Rights Commitment Enhancement Initiative targets the judicial sector and its clients, including women, children, and people with special needs. It also contributes to achieving justice by enhancing the monitoring and tracking of violations and complaints related to human rights infringements and defendants. The initiative takes necessary corrective actions for these violations and devises future plans to limit them, ensuring that members of society receive fair and impartial trials. It also aims to preserve the rights of the most vulnerable groups in society and improve the Kingdom's commitment to human rights.

Activities of the Human Rights Commitment Enhancement Initiative

The initiative provides a document outlining concepts and principles for human rights applications. It strives to develop procedures, control tools, and a technical system for human rights commitment, train employees on adhering to human rights standards, and present reports on human rights commitment through the 'Justice and Humanity' program.

Protection of human rights in Saudi Arabia

The Kingdom cares about human rights through the Human Rights Commission, which supervises securing and monitoring the human rights protected by the Basic Law of Governance issued in 1992. Governance is based on justice, consultation, and equality in accordance with Islamic Sharia, and the protection of human rights includes the right to life and liberty, education, health, work, family protection, women's empowerment, and enhanced participation in political and public life. Additionally, it includes the freedom to form and support associations, and the right to cultural participation and engagement in sports and recreational activities.
