



Dams in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are an important source of water for developing population centers and agricultural areas adjacent to valley paths. The storage capacity of dams in the Kingdom is estimated at about 2.4 billion m³ of exploitable water. The number of dams in the Kingdom is 559, according to the annual report of the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture for 2023 . Among the largest of these dams are:
King Fahd Dam
Located in Bishah Governorate, Aseer Province, it is one of the largest dams in the Kingdom in terms of size and water storage capacity. Its height reaches 103 m, and its storage capacity is 325 million m³.
Wadi Hali Dam
Located in al-Qunfudhah Governorate, which is part of Makkah al-Mukarramah Province, the dam has a storage capacity of 254 million m³, with a height of approximately fifty-seven m. It produces about 36.5 million m³ annually and is considered the second-largest dam in the Kingdom in terms of size and water storage capacity.
Wadi Rabigh Dam
Located in Rabigh Governorate, Makkah al-Mukarramah Province, it is a concrete dam inaugurated in 2009. It has a length of 380 m, a height of 80.5 m, and a storage capacity of approximately 220 million m³.
Wadi Baysh Dam
It is one of the largest dams in the Kingdom, located in Jazan Province. It was constructed in 2009. Its height reaches 106 m, and its length is about 340 m, with a storage capacity of 193.6 million m³.
Wadi Qanuna Dam
It is a concrete dam located at Wadi Qanuna in al-Qunfudhah Governorate, Makkah al-Mukarramah Province. It was constructed in 2017, with a length of 326 m, a height of seventy m, and a storage capacity of about eighty million m³.
Wadi Jazan Dam
It is located fifteen km north of Abu 'Arish Governorate in Jazan Province. It was inaugurated in 1971 . It is a concrete dam with a length of 316 m, a height of 19.6 m, and a storage capacity of about fifty-five million m³.
