Abdullatif Alwasel worked as an assistant professor of biomedical technology at the College of Applied Medical Sciences at King Saud University. He also served as the director of the biomedical technology program at the same university from 2018 to 2022. Additionally, he held several positions at the Center for Strategic Development and contributed to numerous scientific publications in the field of biotechnology, either independently or as part of a team.

Abdullatif Alwasel assumed the position of chief executive officer of the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission as of November 18, 2024. Before that date, he managed several key initiatives within the commission, serving as the general manager of the publishing sector. He also oversaw the organization of several book fairs in Saudi Arabia, including Riyadh International Book Fair.
