Al-Fash Mosque, also known as Uhud Mosque and al-Fasih Mosque is one of the historical mosques intertwined with the Prophetic Biography recounting the virtues of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah. It was named "Uhud Mosque" due to its proximity to Mount Uhud. It is also known as "al-Fash Mosque" as it is reported that Allah, the Almighty, revealed the verse: {O believers! When you are told to make room in gatherings, then do so. Allah will make room for you in His grace.}

Al-Fash Mosque has a rectangular shape. Its length is estimated at approximately six m and has a width of four m. Its height is two m and the thickness of its walls is one m. Stone and gypsum were used for its construction. The mosque was subject to several renovations. The mosque is built in the architectural style of the time and covers an area of ninety m.

Location of al-Fash Mosque

Al-Fash Mosque is located north of the Main Mosque, located next to the Martyrs of Uhud Cemetery. It is approximately five km from the Prophet's Mosque. It is a small mosque affixed to Mount Uhud, located to the right side of the visitors coming from the battlefield, under the bay laurel believed to be the one under which Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him (PBUH) prayed. The historian Mohammed al-Matari located the mosque and identified its features. He noted that on the side of the Qibla, a seat the size of a human head is carved into the mountain. It is believed that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) sat on the rock underneath it.

Historical importance of al-Fash Mosque

Al-Fash Mosque gained historical importance as one of the sites that witnessed the passage of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Tales recount that He prayed in that mosque. Ibn Shibbah reported that Rafih Bin Khadij narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) prayed at the small mosque in Uhud.

Mohammed al-Matari, Nur al-Din al-Samhudi, Abdulqader al-Hanbali, and Ahmed al-Abbasi, among others, reported that the Prophet (PBUH) prayed the Dhuhr and Asr prayers at that mosque.
