Qarn al-Manazil is one of the archaeological sites in Makkah al-Mukarramah Province in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is the place where the Prophet Muhammed, peace be upon him (PBUH), designated a Miqat for the people of Najd when he said: "And the people of Najd assume Ihram from Qarn."
Miqat Qarn al-Manazil
The mosque of Miqat Qarn al-Manazil (known today as as-Sayl al-Kabir) is located on the eastern bank of Wadi Qarn (as-Sayl al-Kabir) on the Taif –Makkah Road, passing by Nakhlat al-Yamaniyyah. It is eighty km northeast of Makkah al-Mukarramah City and thirty-five km north of Taif City. Along Wadi Qarn toward the south of as-Sayl al-Kabir, there is another mosque known as Miqat Qarn al-Manazil "Wadi Muharram," located seventy-six km to the southeast of Makkah al-Mukarramah City via the mountainous road (Jabal Kara) and ten km northwest of Taif City. It is thirty-three km away from the mosque of as-Sayl al-Kabir.
Reason for the naming
The name Qarn encompasses the entire valley, whether via as-Sayl al-Kabir or the route of Jabal Kara. Furthermore, Qarn was mentioned in the events of the Battles of Hunayn and Taif in 630. The Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) stayed there on his way to the Battle of Taif. Qarn was also mentioned in geographical sources as a station on the Yamani Hajj route, in addition to being one of the Miqats.
