2003

The Saudi-French mission commenced its search efforts. Excavations at al-Hijr Site uncovered numerous artifacts, significant information about the region, and the historical timeline of civilization in that region.

2004

The Archaeology Department of King Saud University began excavations at the site of Qurh al-Mabiyat. The findings included a city wall surrounding the stone city and residential units. These discoveries highlighted that it was an Islamic city rich in historical and archaeological components.

2005

Research began at al-Khuraybah (Dadan) site, where several locations were discovered, including the "Lion Tombs" and "Mahlab al-Naqa."

2018

The Royal Commission for al-Ula launched the Archaeological and Heritage Survey Program in 2018. Moreover, a cooperation agreement was signed with a French team.
