Film Award

The Film Award is an annual national cultural award in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is granted to creators who have made a positive impact in the field of Saudi film production. It aims to convey the voices of these creators to a broader audience to enrich local cinematic content. The Film Award was launched as part of the National Cultural Awards initiative announced by the Ministry of Culture in 2019. The first edition of the award was launched in June 2020.

The Film Award targets makers of feature films, whether individuals or institutions, and all those who have contributed to the film industry to elevate the name of the Kingdom internationally through foreign participation, international awards, or achievements in the film sector. This includes works composed of films, videos, visual presentations, or digital animations.

Nominations for the award can be made either directly by the candidates, whether individuals or groups, through the online platform, or through individuals who believe in their deserving of the nomination or award. Nominations can also come from specialized committees within the Ministry of Culture.

The candidate should be of Saudi nationality or born to a Saudi woman. The candidate must be at least twenty-one years old. All information provided in the nomination should be accurate and complete. The candidate must either hold all the general and intellectual rights of the submitted work or possess partial ownership that allows submission with the consent of other involved parties, supported by the necessary documents proving this ownership. The submitted work should have been completed within the two years preceding the nomination. The director of the work must hold a Saudi nationality. The acting crew should include a minimum of 50 percent Saudi members. The content displayed must align with the values of Islamic Sharia, customs, traditions, and public morals.

Cinematic director Shahad Saeed Amin won the Film Award in the first edition, while director Faisal Baltyour won the Film Award in the second edition.
