Municipality of Najran Province

The Municipality of Najran Province is one of seventeen municipalities distributed among the thirteen provinces in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is responsible for the urban development of Najran Province, and the coordination with government entities to set up the structural plans for cities, governorates, and centers in the province. Moreover, it is responsible for providing municipal services to both citizens and residents.

The Municipality of Najran Province is organizationally affiliated with the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing. It is headquartered in Najran City and is about six km away from the headquarters. Ten sub-municipalities fall under its jurisdiction: Sharurah, Khibash, Thar, Badr al-Janub, al-Wadiah, Yadamah, Hubuna, Bir Askar, Sultanah, and al-Husayniyyah.

The Municipality of Najran Province was established on May 26, 1956, and it witnessed several developments since then. The first to serve as the mayor at the time was Abdulaziz al-Brahim, followed by ten mayors or secretaries until 2021.

In 2005, the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs (at the time) issued several decisions, including naming regional municipalities, linking sub-municipalities and blocks, and abolishing the General Directorates for Municipal and Rural Affairs. These decisions were based on the Municipalities and Villages Law issued in 1976, and the decision of the Council of Ministers issued in 2003. Accordingly, Najran Municipality was changed to Municipality of Najran Province, and the municipalities and rural blocks in the province were linked to the mayor.

The Municipality of Najran Province carries out several tasks within its jurisdiction, including: paving roads and streets, establishing and maintaining parks and gardens, treating swamps and water collection points, executing and maintaining flood drainage projects on roads and streets, implementing public slaughterhouse projects, executing and maintaining public markets and specialized markets, executing and maintaining aesthetic monument projects, preparing and equipping waste burial sites, distributing waste containers, supervising the issuance of various professional licenses, monitoring bakeries, factories, and shops to verify product suitability, cleaning streets, squares, parks, slaughterhouses, public places, etc.
