Abdullah Hamad al-Salamah has been a member of Shura Council in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since 2020 and was formerly the Director General of Prince Saud al-Faisal Institute for Diplomatic Studies. He has authored over twenty peer-reviewed scientific papers published in the fields of economic development and work environments and holds more than five local and international memberships.
Abdullah al-Salamah's education
In 1985, Abdullah al-Salamah earned his Bachelor's degree in Administrative Sciences from King Saud University in Riyadh City. He continued his studies in the United States, obtaining a Master's degree in Economics from the College of Business Administration at Western Illinois University in 1990. Then, he obtained a Ph.D. in Economics from the College of Business Administration at Durham University, UK, in 1994.
Abdullah al-Salamah's career
In the early stages of his career, Abdullah al-Salamah served as a part-time advisor to the President of the Royal Commission for Jubayl and Yanbu (RCJY) from 2001 to 2002. Then, he worked as a supervisor for RCJY Public Relations Department in 2003. After that, he took the position of supervisor for the Legal, Financial, and Administrative Affairs Department in 2004. His responsibilities expanded as he became the General Supervisor of the RCJY President's Office and also supervised the energy and gas track of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Scholarship Program. Later, He was promoted to be the Chairman of the Central Scholarship Committee and subsequently became Chairman of RCJY Scientific Council of Colleges and Institutes. He also held the position of Chairman of the Promotions and Appointment Committee and became a member of the Higher Promotions Committee. In addition, he became the Chairman of the Committee for Preparing the Employee Housing Guide. Eventually, he held the position of the Chairman of the Committee for Reviewing Organizational Structures.
Since 2012, Abdullah al-Salamah has been serving as Acting Director General of Human Resources and Support Services at RCJY. Then, he became the Director General of Prince Saud al-Faisal Institute for Diplomatic Studies and a board member since 2017. He has served as an economics associate professor at the same institute since 2003, alongside his work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Abdullah al-Salamah in Shura Council
After being appointed as a member of Shura Council on October 18, 2020, Abdullah al-Salamah assumed the role of Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee. This committee is concerned with issues related to foreign affairs and regional and international organizations, including foreign policy, diplomatic representation, and relations with other countries as well as Islamic, Arab, and International organizations.
Additionally, he is a member of the second committee of parliamentary friendship committees at Shura Council, which includes parliaments from Britain, Ireland, Iceland, Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia, Togo, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Niger, Benin, and Cape Verde.
Scientific contributions of Abdullah al-Salamah
Abdullah al-Salamah has been actively involved in seminars and workshops, presenting research on a variety of topics including the Kingdom’s relations with different countries. His work covers modern trends in diplomatic training, correlation in Central Asia: challenges and new opportunities, transformations in the Kingdom, opportunities to strengthen relations with the Visegrád Group (V4) countries, economic development in the Kingdom, the impact of establishing RCJY on the Saudi economy, the Kingdom’s role in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) during the reign of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, foreign direct investment in developing countries, and the effects of the work environment on foreign direct investments in the Kingdom. He has also explored the lessons learned from the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), Arab diplomatic commercial training between reality and aspiration, and modern trends in diplomatic commercial training: the Diplomatic Studies Institute in the Kingdom as a subject of study; Saudi oil policy: foundations, motivations, and dimensions; non-Saudi labor in the petrochemical sector and its impact on the Saudi economy; labor in multinational companies: SABIC as a case study for a doctoral thesis; and the impact of multinational corporations (MNCs) on the Saudi economy.
Memberships of Abdullah al-Salamah
Abdullah al-Salamah has been a member of many committees, including the Saudi Economic Association, the British Society for Middle Eastern Studies, and the Southern Economic Association in the United States. He has also served on the Advisory Services Committee of the Saudi Organization for Chartered and Professional Accountants (SOCPA) for the fourth and fifth sessions (2006 - 2013), as well as a board member of Prince Saud al-Faisal Institute for Diplomatic Studies, and a member of the Committee for 'Alinma Saudi Government Sukuk ETF Fund - Short Maturity' in 2020.
