Al-Dosariyah Castle is one of the historical heritage sites in Jazan Province, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is a square-shaped military structure located atop a mountain, overlooking the Red Sea. The castle covers a total area of approximately nine hundred mand was built in 1810.

History of al-Dosariyah Castle

Al-Dosariyah Castle was used during various periods, including the rule of the Idrisid state. The history of the castle is not limited to military and political functions alone; Sheikh Abdullah al-Qar’awi made it a center for education and learning, spreading knowledge among students in the province during his time.

The castle was renovated in 1932 during the reign of the Founding King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud. The reconstruction was completed in early 1933, establishing the first Saudi military garrison there, making it the headquarters for the Saudi army during that period.

Design of al-Dosariyah Castle

The castle is located in the center of Jazan City, atop a mountain overlooking Jazan Port. It was built in a square shape and consists of two floors with four cylindrical towers that protrude from its exterior. The walls are interspersed with openings for monitoring and protecting the area. At the center is a courtyard surrounded by walls with arches, which are supported by foundations that have been recently reinforced to increase their size. Additionally, southern and western battlements were added to serve as primary defensive lines for the structure, which is elevated about 250 m above sea level.

Restoration of al-Dosariyah Castle

Al-Dosariyah Castle underwent a development project aimed at enhancing the area surrounding it to complement the historical significance of the castle. The project also aimed to connect the castle to the inner market of Jazan City, contributing to the creation of tourist attractions along the city's tourism route. Additionally, the project sought to provide an attractive area around the castle for tourists and heritage enthusiasts.
