Establishment of Rabigh Refining and Petrochemical Company

Rabigh Refining and Petrochemical Company was established in 2005 as a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. The project's value is approximately SAR16.71 billion (25 percent funded by public investors, with the rest equally funded by Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. and Saudi Aramco). It has an annual production capacity exceeding 18.4 million t of petroleum products and 2.4 million t annually of propylene and ethylene derivatives. Its products are used as materials in various end products including plastics, lubricants, oils, detergents, coolants, antifreeze, carpets, paints, ropes, clothing, automotive interiors, shampoo, adhesives, insulations, fibers, films, packaging materials, household appliances, candles, and pipes.

Rabigh Refining and Petrochemical Company's products encompass a range of applications that offer novice investors an opportunity to establish new industries in the region. Additionally, Petro Rabigh provides numerous investment opportunities through the Rabigh Plastic Technology Complex, which is the first industrial complex dedicated to downstream industries in the Kingdom.
