The Social Research Award is an award aimed at honoring outstanding researchers in social issues, specifically those who focus on topics related to Saudi society. It encompasses research centers that are concerned with social issues inside and outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The award was initiated by the National Center for Social Studies in its first edition in 2023.
The Director General of the center supervises the operations of the Social Research Award, while it is chaired honorary by the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development. Nominations for the award include the researchers themselves, as well as governmental agencies within the Kingdom and social centers concerned with Saudi social issues both in the Kingdom and abroad.
Award contributions
The Social Research Award contributes to advancing the quality of serious social researches that contribute to addressing social phenomena and issues. It also motivates governmental and civil research entities to grow and innovate in this field, encouraging researchers to excel in addressing local community affairs and topics. Furthermore, it seeks to identify challenges facing social development and find solutions to them.
Branches and components of the award
The Social Research Award consists of five branches: Social issues, women's issues, youth issues, poverty and social justice issues, and childhood issues. Winners receive a certificate of appreciation in the name of the award and the National Center for Social Studies, along with a shield bearing the name and logo of the award. Additionally, they are awarded a monetary sum of approximately SAR150,000 for each branch of the five award categories.
The award is subject to specific criteria, including the researcher's commitment to conducting research using the correct scientific methodology. The submitted work should be original, creative, and serious, contributing to the development of social, environmental, or economic aspects applicable to Saudi society.
