Establishment of the Coordinating Council for Social Research Centers

On January 31, 2021, the approval of the Board of Directors of the National Center for Social Studies, chaired by the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, was issued for the establishment of the Coordinating Council for Social Research Centers. This is one of the center's initiatives that achieve its strategic objectives in communication and coordination with research centers in the social and developmental fields.

The council is chaired by the Director General of the National Center for Social Studies, along with a deputy and a secretary-general who are elected by the council members from among the directors of public, private, and charitable research centers. The first preparatory meeting of the Coordinating Council for Social Research Centers was held remotely on February 8, 2021.

Responsibilities of the Coordinating Council for Social Research Centers

The responsibilities of the Coordinating Council for Social Research Centers towards research centers include a range of mandates, such as creating an interactive digital platform that encompasses all entities participating in the council's membership and showcasing and supporting their outputs. The council also activates databases containing research, studies, and reports issued by social research centers, coordinates the sharing of some databases or scientific research institutions, and facilitates the exchange of expertise and scientific publications among members. Additionally, the council organizes scientific training courses and specialized workshops to benefit the sector and social researchers, follows up on scientific and practical recommendations on social issues with relevant entities, and supports research centers by providing advice on their structure and development.

Membership is permanent except in two cases: non-compliance with the council's regulations or submission of a withdrawal request.

The council has granted membership to several centers, including the Saudi Society for Social Studies, the Saudi Center for Opinion Polling, the King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue, the Saudi Center for Studies and Research on Drug and Mental Health Prevention (Haseen), the National Research Center for Youth Issues, the Center for Research in Theoretical and Human Sciences, the Center for Social Research and Studies, the Security Research Center, the King Salman Center for Disability Research, the Promising Research Center in Social Research and Women's Studies, the Ministry of Education's Agency for Research and Innovation, the Authority for the Care of Persons with Disabilities, the Community Studies Center, the Family Affairs Council, among others related to social research.

It coordinates with relevant entities and connects with international social databases to support research projects and ideas related to social issues. The center aims to utilize this research to provide solutions, recommendations, and appropriate decisions related to social development. Additionally, it forges partnerships, collaborates, and builds relationships based on the exchange of expertise and information with non-profit organizations, government agencies, and research centers, contributing to the enhancement of services and developmental projects in the social field.
