The Council of Political and Security Affairs is a council that deals with all political and security matters in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was established by a Royal Decree in 2015, following the abolition of twelve councils and high committees, including the National Security Council.

The council is organizationally linked to the Council of Ministers. It develops general state policies and institutionalizes the handling of political and security developments. It is a high-level ministerial committee composed of the highest-level government entities relevant to national security, coordinating together to respond to any threats that the Kingdom may face.

Chairman of the Council of Political and Security Affairs

His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz heads the council in his capacity as crown prince. The council includes ten members, who are high-ranking officials from security, diplomatic, and intelligence entities.

Tasks of the Council for Political and Security Affairs

The council is responsible for approving policies and strategies related to political and security affairs, as well as monitoring their implementation after being endorsed by the Council of Ministers. It has a particular role in providing insights on matters of importance related to the state's domestic and foreign political affairs, as well as security, military, and media affairs on both regional and international levels, directly and indirectly affecting national security and the interests of the Kingdom.

The council provides advice to the Kingdom's government on national security policies and long-term planning for national security components, and monitors developments related to activities and the implementation of decisions in this regard.

Reference of the Council of Political and Security Affairs

The Council of Political and Security Affairs is linked with the Council of Ministers, and it directly submits reports to it regarding national security issues.
