Historians have divergent opinions regarding the naming of al-Jubayl Governorate in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Some argue that it is a modern designation with Arabic origins, meaning a small mountain, located in the northeastern part of the town of al-Jubayl. Others suggest it has Phoenician origins, attributed to the nearby Jbeil situated near Arad and Tyre in the northeast of the Mediterranean Sea.
Al-Jubayl region was known in the pre-Islamic era and the early Islamic period as 'Aynayn'. It had a long history in human civilizations, with discovered artifacts linking it to the ancient Ubaid civilization. This civilization, located south of Mesopotamia, dates back to approximately five thousand years before the Common Era, making it one of the earliest known human civilizations. In modern times, al-Jubayl came under Saudi rule with the conquest of al-Ahsa in 1913. It was visited by the Founding King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, on February 20, 1930.
