Filmathon Initiative is an initiative launched by the Film Commission to support the cinematic movement and develop the film industry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was launched under the slogan 'Innovation in Filmmaking' on August 6, 2023, to embody the convergence of artistic creativity with the spirit of technological innovation.
The initiative provides an intensive training program to enable participants to develop initial technological products that contribute to solving challenges in the film industry. It aims to build and enhance the capabilities and competencies of specialists according to global practices, encourage research and innovation in filmmaking, and raise awareness about the industry.
Objectives of the Filmathon Initiative
The Filmathon Initiative seeks to achieve several goals in the local film industry sector, including:
• Raising awareness about the film industry and encouraging research and innovation within it.
• Developing new technological business models through the outputs of Filmathon to support the film industry.
• Building and developing the capabilities and competencies of interested and specialized individuals in the field according to global practices to enable growth and innovation.
Target audience and tracks of the Filmathon Initiative
The Filmathon Initiative targets individuals working in fields related to the film industry, including: entrepreneurs and professionals in the film industry, university students specializing in technical fields, startups specializing in artificial intelligence, and modern technology enthusiasts.
The initiative includes two tracks that accommodate the potential of the target audience: building three-dimensional (3D) digital film sets supported by artificial intelligence in the metaverse, and developing digital solutions to empower the film industry sector.
The initiative offers numerous benefits, including thirty-two hours of training and twenty-four hours of mentoring. The winning teams receive financial prizes totaling SAR650,000, awarded to six winning teams from both tracks. Additionally, participants have the opportunity to develop technological business models and creative concepts and to join a specialized tech incubator program in the film industry for one year.
