Princess al-Jawhara Bint Faisal Bin Turki Bin Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud (1854 - 1931) was the aunt of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's founder, King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud. She stood as one of the foremost women to have experienced the events of the Arabian Peninsula. She witnessed the end of the Second Saudi State and the unification of the Kingdom's regions.

Al-Jawhara Bint Faisal found herself in exclusive company with King Abdulaziz during his youth, consistently urging him, "You must revive the greatness of the House of Saud," as a motivation to re-establish the Saudi State.

Life of al-Jawhara Bint Faisal Bin Turki

Princess al-Jawhara Bint Faisal was born in 1854. She was raised by her father, Imam Faisal Bin Turki Bin Abdullah, her mother Sarah Bint Abdulaziz Bin Muammar, and her maternal grandfather Abdulaziz Bin Muammar, one of the most renowned scholars of Najd during the nineteenth century.

Sarah Bint Abdulaziz’s upbringing in a household steeped in knowledge and learning contributed to its reflection in her daughter, al-Jawhara. Al-Jawhara understood history and Sirah (prophetic biography), memorized the Holy Quran, and was dedicated to collecting books and their endowment to students of knowledge, allowing them to benefit from them.

Events experienced by al-Jawhara Bint Faisal Al Saud

Princess al-Jawhara Bint Faisal witnessed the end of the Second Saudi State, which was founded by her grandfather, Prince Turki Bin Abdullah. She refused to leave Riyadh after the Battle of Mulayda in 1890. Following this event, she was determined to instill a sense of resilience within Al Saud family. Moreover, she played a significant role in encouraging King Abdulaziz to reclaim Riyadh in 1902 and work to re-establish the Saudi State.

Al-Jawhara Bint Faisal’s interests in women’s education

Al-Jawhara Bint Faisal Bin Turki was dedicated to educating women, and she exerted outstanding efforts toward this end. She hosted them in the palace of the founding King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud. After her endeavors to encourage Riyadh's restoration and the Kingdom's development, al-Jawhara passed away in 1931.
